Hello,

I am facing some issues with my gaming rig from 4 years ago. It was made back in Aug 2012.

Recently when I play games on it, my PC will auto shutdown or auto restart on me. I did some google and found out that either my graphic card or my PSU is busted hence I get this problem.

I'm gonna post my current rig specs here and maybe you guys can help me and point me in the right direction on what to do next with my rig. Maybe dismantling everything and taking what's good left to build a new rig or maybe just replacing some parts will be good enough. I appreciate all your replies and advice!

i5 3470 gigabyte h77 d3h mvp
kingston 4gb ddr3 x 2 pcs
powercolor 7950 3gb v2 edition with 2 fans
crucial m4 128gb ssd
seagate 1tb sata 3 64mb cache hdd
asus 24x dvdrw
fsp aurum gold 550w modular psu
sharkoon t28 case
ms win 7 home prem 64bit oem
dell u2312hm 23" EIPS panel with 5 yrs warranty

This build was recommended by a veteran here and I am here to get some input from the forum community before I consult him again. It'd be good to get information from the community. The reason why I would consult him again is because I do not know how to upgrade my own rig... :(

I want to be able to "future-proof" my cpu again for another couple of years because this rig lasted me 3 years ++ before it ran into such issues. It would be nice to play new games with high/ultra settings again without any issues. Currently do not have any budget yet but would be nice to see what you guys think. Maybe just swapping out the graphics card would be good enough and it would cost me a few hundred bucks or building a new rig would be more worth it.

Thank you!

change the psu for the auto shutdown issues, see if anything changes. if there isn't any issues anymore, then get a gtx 970 for $479 if you got the budget or r9 290 for $389 at pcthemes/bizgram if you can't afford gtx 970. the rest of the parts shouldn't bottleneck , no issues.

In summary, best value for money option. Depends on what games you want to play at ULTRA settings.

These days the 2 high end to go to cards are GTX 970 or 980Ti. I assume your CPU is Ivy Bridge (3 years old). Changing to either cards will however require a better PSU to be on the safer side.

You can keep the rest of the rig for now.

Thank you both for your replies!

I will definitely look into getting a new PSU and a new GFX card. Probably will get a GTX 970... but it seems a bit costly and can only be bought through lazada? Is it possible to get it through retail in Singapore?

Any idea what kind of PSU would be good for value? So maybe I can convey this two item to the guy and see what he says and how much he will charge me for it. Anyone else doing this line of service maybe can pm me too?

Thank you.
