Hi Guys, my COE is running out. Am looking at the diesel engine 116d which can run 100km on 4litres of diesel which i think is damn economical. Basically one month only need to spend $100 on diesel based on my current usage. Over the course of 10 years i can save $36k on fuel.

What do you guys think?

Wait till you get the real world figures. It might cut your 36k to 18k.

I've calculated the road tax to be $1282 per year for diesel car compared to ~$750 for 1.6I petrol engine car. Per month ~$40 difference. Compare this to $250 fuel savings. I'm still $200 better off every month.

I'm thinking from a holistic point of view. I'm deciding to either settle for a mazda 3 or buy this 116d. If I can save $36k over the course of 10 years ownership, I may as well buy the 116d since the car price difference between these two cars is ard $36k.

If you're into mileage, why not a hybrid like the Prius?

Did u factor in the maintenance cost difference between mazda 3 and 116d?

BMW = bring/buy me worries?? Not sure about the this new engine. Older BMW has the disappearing engine oil issue. First 3 years service at pml prepare to be chop, after that there are plenty of reliable workshop out there. Maintenance and repair are cheaper than you think actually.

If price and expenses is a concern. Then one should also consider depreciation of the car price over 10 years. Plus any possible incident of repair cost. Tax structure and fuel price between the two may also change.

Think actual usage is around 16 to 18 km/l

The diesel particle filter need to replace after a few years depends on your luck. List price usd is 1k+ . In sg maybe 2k+ from pml

The in car entertainment is stripped down version, no cruise control.

It's a good drive but space for rear passenger is small.

For a while was quite gian, after further research. So so ..

Thanks all for the honest and objective feedback.

I've currently driving a 320i '06 now. Maintenance is a big issue and definitely one of the main consideration to own a bmw.

Probably will test drive both to make a final decision.

The BMW 1 series hatchback is a nice car to drive because RWD but terribly impractical because of the horrid boot space and rear leg room compared to other hatchbacks
