My aircon servicing contractor just helped me top up gas, it lasted for two months and my aircon is not cold. I have a ME system 3 and all three units are not cold. Should I do a pressure test to identify the leak or change all the aircon units?

My aircons were installed 10 years ago and my pipes are all enclosed in false ceiling (condo). I just enquired another company and was quoted $8500 to redo all the pipings and aircons. 😱😱😱

Do I have other options? It's really a hassle to hack walls as we are staying in πŸ₯²πŸ₯² heard pressure test is useless and we should just change compressor or fcu. Any kind advice? TIA πŸ™‡β€β™€οΈπŸ™‡β€β™€οΈπŸ™‡β€β™€οΈ

My parents did pressure test and it was useless. Didn't even pinpoint where exactly the leak originated, except that it was leaking. :s22: Theirs is an old condo.

8500 seems steep, for 10 year AC, better to just get it replaced than trying to fix with pressure test etc.

Hi. A related question:
I am dealing with the old aircon in the resale condo. My serviceman told me to clean it before movein I had two choices - general clean or a chemical wash. He then mentioned that if do chemical wash, need to add gas as well. He explained that chemical wash requires the fcu be dismantled almost totally, and clean and place it back, then must top up gas because during the dismantle there would always be some extent of gas leakage.

Is he correct? btw chemical wash is charged per fcu and gas topup is charged per cu

Why must top up gas for chem wash ?

You can chem wash without top up gas.

You top up gas when there isn't enough gas only. This is actually a rare thing to do assuming there is no leak at all.

If you chemical wash for old aircon, be prepared that aircon totally die. Then you will need to replace the whole system. Is your servicemen from private aircon company or the big aircon firms?

One influencer aircon servicemen ever told me that when buy new condo, best to purge the gas then top up. He said most condo aircon installer anyhow do one. In the end, the piping got corroded and gas leak. If buy resale, best to redo else later gone case, confirm chop super headache
