There are many tuition centres out there which charge exorbitant fees for students and I think there is a need for MOE to regulate such private enterprises for the benefit of consumers.

Not all courses or tuition subjects' fees are of an equal and competitive rates /fees compared to others and parents may be 'scammed' by such tuition centres ....

how can we justify the cost of 2 subject coaching and who sets the 'price' in this industry?

yes i agree, there are alot of not so legit tutors in the industry. there is no central register for private tutors some of whom use fake credentials. having a governing body for private tutors and making all of them submit proof of their degrees or whatever certification they have will help weed out all the bad eggs.

If knowledge enter right ear and come out left ear, then just save the tuition money. If children already have the "want" to learn, just pay attention during class and there is no need for tuition. If need tuition, tutors must the skill to motivate the students to learn. So, tuition is not a sure fire option.

It is free market economy. MOE does not encourage tuition industry.

"pay attention =/= understand" and results often show that. It's a character thingy. Unlike adult, children have shorter attention span. Err... some adult also have short attention span. :( Some kids have ADHD problem and that might have contributed to teacher burnout. As parents, just impart the "right" value to the kids. Pay attention to what teachers say during the meet the teacher session and empathize with the teachers. When my kid finished his O level, I sent a "thank you" email to his teachers and they were very appreciative.

ban tuition centers like china.

best.

save money. stop this memorisation / rote learning stuff

You are obviously not in touch with our school's pedagogy. Rote learning already outdated donkey years ago.

Now they are doing (too) advanced methods like Guess and Check.

Meaning study a pattern and foretell its future, to solve advanced Algebra. In less than 2 mins.

Hence parents panic and send for tuition.

so many tuition centres. zero Nobel Prize winners.

i'd rather tuition centres be banned and adopt international Cambridge IGCSE rather than pointless own developed Singapore GCE
