Planning to build a PC for the new year and want to try team red for this build but I am new to AMD and bad at choosing CPUs and Mobos. Hoping gurus here can help, aiming for a budget build.

To add some context:
  • Build is meant for gaming (high settings, no need ultra) + super casual video editing, not planning to overclock
  • Planning on purchasing Lian Li O11 Dynamic case and mid-tier branded gtx3080 card
  • Currently using dual monitor setup (4k and 1440p) but only plan on using 1440 monitor for games
  • Plan to purchase VR headset, but only for saber beat
  • Mobo should have wifi as i dont have LAN cable
  • (Optional but good to have) White-theme build

Do let me know if i should consider any other factor?

Thanks!!!

haha i think you misinterpreted. I meant to say a mid-tier branded 3080 card, so maybe a zotac or msi rather than a strix

any suggestions?

value for money is definitely 5900x in term of cores/$. If you dont need so much cores then 5600x is enough. So it's either 5600x or 5900x bah. For mobo I'm not sure also cause I'm also looking for 1. I'm looking into aorus but many ppl recommend ASUS. I personally find ASUS products too overrated, over-marketing. Not really exactly as good as what they advertised... Sorry no offence to Asus's fan. I'm open to feedback, maybe can suggest to me how asus is good cause I'm really looking into buying a x570 motherboard soon. Thanks

Haha are you saying that only to sell your 5900x? Saw a separate post on that :D

With regards to the ASUS vs Aorus, maybe you can stick around this thread and we can see what the gurus will say

Hahaha no la, must face the facts also. Although this is MSRP for Singapore price but I don't think we can see this price so soon yet until the supply is stable... You see 5800x top up $150 more for 4 more cores leh

5950X - S$1249 - 16 cores, 32 threads
5900X - S$849 - 12 cores, 24 threads
5800X - S$699 - 8 cores, 16 threads
5600X - S$459 - 6 cores, 12 threads

I dun think there is such a thing as mid tier branded for RTX 3080 bah... the expensive brands and components only matters if u OC. I dun remember seeing any significant differences of different brands of RTX 3080. Just go for something that u feel comfortable within your budget.

Like a bag is bag, u buy LV, Chanel or katespade, the basic performance or function is still the same.

High settings 1440p gaming 3070 could be sufficient.

bro ts already mention he gonna use the lianli o11 case u still suggest tecware case for what :s22: i dont think the 1650 super will be sufficient for 1440p gaming either, at most 1080p. anyway the b550m aorus elite is quite a bad mobo, vrms will run hot with a 5900x.

but yes as zleipnir mentioned, 3080 is not considered mid tier card, but is right next to being a top tier card, so quite the premium product. but if looking to play 1440p, then 3080 is abit overkill. what refresh rate are u aiming for? the 3080 is good for around 150fps at 1440p, so it is only viable if u have a 1440p144 screen. otherwise if u have a 120hz screen or slower, the 3070 or the 3060 ti would make more sense. that is if ur not looking to play ray traced games, that is an entirely different discussion alr :s13:

back to original qn, since ur build already quite high end it would be a shame to handicap it in any way. so a 5900x would fit nicely, especially since u plan on video editing. white themed am4 mobos are hard to come by, even less so with wifi. the only mobo that comes to mind is msi's b550m mortar wifi, and even that is not 100% white, maybe 50-50. msi used to have the titanium lineup for 100% white mobos but they didnt bring it to their 500 series mobos. the b450m mortar titanium was as far as i know their latest titanium board, but is very rare and does not support zen 3 yet (at least according to msi website).

Thanks! I will look at 3070 or 3060ti then, can budget more.

No la, I am not going high-end, I didn't know i can make do with 3070 or 3060ti haha.

Since I "downgrade" the build abit will a Ryzen 5 5600x be sufficient? Will take a look at the msi b550m mortar
