Just quick question,

i have my MBPr for sometime now and i understand that we do not need to install any anti spyware/malware/virus software as this might back-fire instead. However i would like to check if it would be recommended to run those programme regularly after sometime to make sure the system is really clean? :s22:

If yes, may i know which programme you guys are using that is free? :s12:

Thanks!

ClamAV seems to be one of the more popular free antivirus. I've personally used ClamAV, PC Tools iAntiVirus and Sophos. Don't know which was actually "better" since none of them ever detected a virus or malware. But in terms of user interface and user friendliness I'd say Sophos.

I'm currently using Intego Virus Barrier & Net Barrier. Its not free though but its another popular antivirus.

There will always be two camps. One will tell you AV for Mac doesn't make sense as there are practically no viruses targeting OS X especially the latest version i.e. Maverick. The other camp will tell you it DOES make sense because its not just viruses but malware and other nasties. So the call is your's. I'd rather be kiasu.

There were some reports about AV supposedly slowing down the system, causing crashes, etc. I've not had any slow downs or crashes with ClamAV, PC Tools iAntiVirus, Sophos or Intego. Either I'm lucky or those people are unlucky.

Didn't even know Eset was on Mac. I used it before years ago when I was on PC. Supposed to be one of the better PC antivirus.
