If I'm getting you correct you plan to get a mobile data router?

You looking for 4 or 5g mobile router?

Good as in speed of the router modem or wifi range coverage?

Android 11 supports Ethernet tethering.

Just get a USB C adapter with LAN port and connect to the router WAN port.

Thinking of using simba / zym those sim cards to power up the house Wifi since it's so much cheaper

But I don't know how to go about it

I will suggest you go with zym. Simba is really to slow for multiple users.

Zym who is on singtel network usually have a better coverage and data speed (there are still blind spot where Singtel data speed is slower)

You can check out this zte device which is capable of supporting 4/5g plan.

Have you considered how much data you need to consume at home every month? 100GB may be enough for only 1 household member.
So far we hardly use plus my husband is often on business travels. So apart from youtube and Netflix, I don't really use much

You just need to find an old phone or use your existing phone to hotspot the Wifi for your YouTube and Netflix. Many phones manufactured over the past 3 years should be able to hotspot at 50Mbps or even more than 100Mbps which is higher than Simba's average speed around residential areas. The phone hotspot continues to run when it is charging, the only thing is constant plugins may affect the battery life.

If you want to save money, the other alternative is to wait a while more for Simba's 20-dollar broadband. If you want to have a dedicated SIM card at 10 dollars per month just for the 4G router, Simba broadband costs another 10 dollars more. Netflix 2-hour movie at HD is around 6GB, and at 4k will be 14GB, so a 100GB mobile data plan may not go that far.

Hi need a recommendation for 4g router. Already have fibre installed but need a backup in case of downtime.

Agree with sky. I'd like to add a caveat though. Videos can consume tonnes of data if you stream it in 4K, even if only 1 person is watching. So you may have to down res your streaming, as otherwise videos + web surfing and some games can easily exceed 100GB.

Simba Plan cannot activate the hotspot inside the iPhone.

did they disable something since the tpg days?

Admittedly i tried this on an android phone (redmi note 2) during the tpg trial days.

the same sim card also worked without a problem when i set up the hp as an android USB modem for my asus router dual wan (RT-AX88U or RT-AC68U, secondary WAN, failover)

edit: now that i recall, the hp as usb modem served as my primary WAN before fibre was installed (this was during the lock down days and fibre installation was suspended). not as fast, but network-wise, it was (almost) plug and play. exactly same setup, just change WAN source from fibre to USB modem.
the only thing that didn't work was the existing external access - used alternatives during the few months before fibre was finally installed.

(video is dated 26 jan 2023)
till this day, still need to manually add APN name? <facepalm>
acceptable during trial period of 2019/2020, but it is reasonable to assume this "feature" would be fixed so long after going live. I sure hope this "feature" has been/will be fixed

Apple's database does not have Simba APN by default, so it needs to be manually entered even for hotspots.
