imo vientiane is quite boring, theres not much to do there other than the fact that the airport is nearest to vientiane

vang vieng and luang prabang are a must if you visit laos

Agree man. Vietiane is the capital city but so damn boring. Only got Mekong River night market and many boring stone statue Buddha parks.

Vang Vien is water sports place. Lots of Angmoh, cheap beer.

Luang Prabang is the ex capital city of Laos. Got french flavor since Laos was colonied by the French. There u can go Kuangsi waterfall, join cooking classes, cafes to drink coffee and baguette. Buildings are also French like. Quite a nice place.

can go on buggy rides, canoeing, ATV, etc..

As others have said, Luang Prabang is a must.
But don't miss Nong Khiaw, it's a beautiful tiny village 3hrs from Luang Prabang and you can do lots of hiking there.

Is Tubing still allowed in Vang Vien after many drunk ang mohs drowned?

yes tubing is still allowed!

the last time i went, we rented a tube from this store which will drive you to the river.

after that, just get on the tube and go on to the river

there are bars along the river and if you want to go to these bars, just shout out to the guy at the river bank and he will throw you a rope which you grab and then he'll haul you in

eventually there's an end point which you can clearly see (there are lots of tubes on a rack) and a guy will throw you a rope for you to disembark

don't ask me what happens if you miss the rope haha

I rented a scrambler from Vientiane and did a 9 day loop clockwise route from Vientiane to Xayaboury, followed by Luang Prabang, Nong Khiaw, Xam Neua, Phonsavan and Vang Vieng before heading back to Vientiane. My favourite site is the Plain of Jars though. This trip was taken many years back. Always wanted to visit Southern Laos but have not done so yet.

Can do spelunking in Vang Vieng, can be very slippery and easy to get lost, so bring torch / headlamp and proper shoes. Using phone as torch is not recommended.
Last time I went, I anyhow joined 2 Thai explore a small cave near the Blue Lagoon in VV, won't do it again.
