buy android box.

it's not about the spec, it is about the content, get one that has their inbuilt sw to push content to u.
Those free apps are very shortlived and unstable. :(

If you have a normal working tv and want to make it smart, getting a stick or box turns the TV smart. Else you can spend more to buy a new smart tv and own two TVs.

Primarily for watching movies on mkv files. Older TV may not recognise new format or lack the power to play smoothly.
Since TV already 6 years old so this box can also provide smart TV functions.

If new TV can do all these then is up to what other functions needed.

I got 2 older TVs which i am using TV stick. For new TV, if you are using youtube, netflix, disney+, i dont think it is necessary to have TV stick

I use a Xiaomi tv stick for my old tv. It heat up pretty fast ,other than that work fine. A tv box would be better.
But more costly .

Smart TV doesn't mean Android TV.
Some smart ones come with manufacturer own OS and you cannot install, for example, your favourite adult videos app.

Don't waste time, just get an android TV ( make sure it says android TV OS)

Android Box/st5ick is a waste of time. ( slow, and laggy)

I use Fire TV Stick 4K.

Main use is to use VLC to watch videos off my NAS.

Secondary is to use streaming apps.

If your needs can be met by your Smart TV then no need for another stick or box.

The sticks and boxes gives more flexibility, though.
