Honestly not sure if I should get an iPad Pro or new MacBook Pro for uni. My current MBP is still ok, just strained on storage (it’s a late 2012 rMBP so a couple of years old). iPad Pro seems handy esp with Apple Pencil can just write on docs, but the lack of flexibility compared to notebook is what I’m worried about

i survived through my university days with an iPad though.. Macbook pro is not an ideal device to work in lectures and tutorials. Your classmates will hate you when you type ferociously..

iPad on the contrary, allows you to download lecture notes and with pencil, you can take notes and highlight like on a real pencil.

I survived through the school days with an app called Notability. allowed me to enter points on the lecture notes and export onto my computer for safe keeping..

Now all my notes are stored in google drive.

During my genius bar appt last week, I spent some time before that with a staff and she ran me through some stuff on the iPad Pro that made it really handy for uni (note taking esp). She showed me this app called Nebo which converts handwriting to text.

Just worried about the lack of connectivity though. On the Mac at least there's USB (type C) ports but the iPad doesn't have such support. Have to go full cloud for that one.

There's a thumbdrive with USB on one side and lightning on the other. Let's you plug into both an iOS device and a PC. Not cheap, but can be found in popular and I guess it's handy to have around as a backup.

the idea of iPad is not to replace a macbook nor a pc, iPad is meant to supplement your usage in this digital world. depending on the course you are reading, iPad might be suffice depending on your needs. If you are from architectural,then pencil might even be more helpful..

Thanks for the advice. I’m actually going to engineering so the pencil + iPad is more of a convenience thing probably. Hahaha.

Maybe I’ll get an iPad Pro 10.5 with pencil (free beats x), and do a clean install of High Sierra when it’s out. My macbook is still doing ok so it can maybe last a few more years.

Unless you are using the ipad nakedly, or else the extra weight from th casing and cover at least, will add up to the weight and makes it heavy.

Might be ok bah... I’m planning to get a leather Smart Cover. Pencil gonna keep in one of my bag compartments when not in use. Don’t like the feel of the Smart Keyboard so I’m not going with that.
