Applecare for macbook

Take it as an investment / insurance. Hardware can fail at any time.

I have a MBP (2012) model with AppleCare and 1 month before AppleCare expires, my screen failed. Had it replaced under AppleCare. However, that replaced screen failed on me 6 months again and service centre quoted me $1000+ to replace.

Other than my iPhone and ipad, I have another macbook which is under AppleCare for the peace of mind. The repair and replacement parts for Apple computers can be very expensive.

i have a imac 2010 still running well and imac 2012, screen died on me recently after warranty. 2012 unit went to change hdd just before warranty over.

its an investment/insurance as above guy mentioned.

its quite costly to change the parts and a pc/laptop is not something u wanna change 1-3 yrs. the applecare guarantees u within that 3yrs ur hardware is covered.

unlike ur mobile which u probably change after a year

As my rule of thumb, anything mobile, I buy AppleCare.
By the way, a day before expiry of my AppleCare on MacBook Retina, I called Apple on a cosmetic issue where the rubber gasket sorrounding the LCD starts to deteroriate. Apple said it's wear and tear, but guess what? They offered me to replaced the whole LCD provided I pay for labor. Good deal already. Grabbed it without 2nd thoughts.

Of course, peace of mind is priceless.

It's fixed price everywhere unless you get a machine and some discount off AppleCare under the purchase with purchase.

that is still a good deal.

i called up and get them to replace my battery. that alone is worth the cost of applecare.

My MBP trackpad kee siao. Was quoted 500ish.

I just have to live with using a mouse then.

Go taobao to buy the replacement parts. Plenty. I swap my own batteries myself. Damage around $70ish.

sidenote: if anyone wants to buy 3-year AppleCare for Macbook/MB Air/MB Pro 13-inch, let me know. I bought one by mistake when I should have bought for my 15-inch.
