Asus ROG Strix headset soars without wires

Asus has released a ROG Strix headset to complement the ROG Strix laptop it announced today. True to its name, the ROG Strix Wireless gives gamers the option of cutting those pesky cables. Flip the earcups inward, and an owlish face stares back at you, too.

This unit is the first wireless headset that Asus has released under the Strix brand. It uses a 2.4GHz dongle for its wireless connection, but it can also be run wired for those of us who prefer our signals to flow over copper. The headset comes with a 900mAh rechargeable battery, which Asus claims is good for at least 10 hours of gaming.

The Strix's 60-mm neodymium drivers deliver in-game audio and music. The mic is detachable, and it can also be muted using a dedicated button beneath one of the owl’s-eye decorations. Volume controls straddle the mic mute button, but there don’t appear to be mic sensitivity controls on board. Asus throws in both a 2.5-mm four-pole cable and a Y-cable connector, ensuring support for PCs, the Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
