Hi,

Anyone out there has any claim experience with Aviva for their Shield plans? I made a claim for hospitalization on 6th July 2016 and till now, the case is still under assessment. Is it normal?

Called up the customer service and they say they will expedite the case. That's all but the status keep remains the same under assessment from Aug till now. Any idea where I can lodge a complaint since already complained to AVIVA and they are not taking any action. CASE?
Yes. Took about a week to reimburse me. Pretty fast

[BEWARE] Integrated shield plan is much harder to claim than medishield

I got news from an insider that integrated shield plan is much harder to claim than medishield.
Right now you might think you got a nice integrated shield plan and can go private hospital for your high class hospital stay. But when u really go and claim, that's where your nightmare begins

This is due to the following reasons
-Medishield is by govt. Claims made by public hospital (govt entity) to medishield (govt entity) is easy because the process is streamlined. Approval is easy. There is not much dispute. In fact, due to the high volume of claims they manage daily, they have all these claim processes nicely streamlined between the hospital and medisave claim system. The hospital billing department can easily obtain letter of undertaking. If you are claiming your insurance company, things are case by case basis, and can drag on for very long.

-Medishield means you are staying at B/C ward which means the costs are cheaper. 1 cotton wipe only costs $0.5. When the claim value is low, they usually close 1 eye and approve the claim. If you stay atas private hospital, 1 cotton wipe is $10. When higher value claims are involves, the insurance company tends to put up disputes against those claims and try to avoid paying.

-Integrated shield plans are by private for profit organizations. They are out to make a profit. So naturally they will find ways and means to escape paying by pulling out clauses in their T&C. Private insurance companies actually hire doctors to dispute claims and these doctors get paid bonuses on how much money they can save the insurance company. On other hand, medishield is by government entity, non profit. Their objective is to serve the citizens. They dont hire such people to avoid the claims. standard government bonuses are given based on GDP.

There you have it. Hope this is enlightening for you. :o
