Battery and mobile network problem

Have this new phone just out of box yesterday. So not a old battery issue.

I notice today that when I connect to my telco 3g wcdma network, the remaining battery shows 50+%. But if I switch to 2g GSM network, the remaining battery immediately drops to 11% only.

Any idea why this is happening?
