Hi all,

Given a budget of $820 to get a 14” laptop, what’s the best one you can get for… general use & for primary school kids to do their studies?

thanks! 🙏🏻

Tried the Dell Outlet? https://www.dell.com/en-sg/outlet

Amazon SG, search for "laptop", just set the slider to max 820-ish and you can see some deals. Also, set the minimum to around 400+ and you can exclude some accessories.

Sorry, just realised this is 15". But leaving it here cos specs wise, you can get a sense of what your $820 can get. Was just one of the earliest listings right from the search results.

Not the "best", but a n100 notebook should be good enough for primary school

Also check official acer lazada or shopee to see if cheaper there with coupons

p.s. This model also available with 15.6-inch screen. If not bringing the laptop to school regularly, can consider that variant

Don't downplay the needs of kids these days. Some schools have multimedia demands on primary school kids. Some are making videos for projects. The n100 is gonna be a bit of a struggle. Kids don't just do Word documents these days.

Plus kids can be quite mean to each other, so the kid with the lousy PC may get bullied or made to feel left out or inferior.

Just get something strong enough since the budget is set.

FYI on the laptop (PLD)used by my daughter:

1) P5/P6 (2023/2024): Asus Chromebook Flip CM1, AMD 3015CE, 4GB DDR, 64GB eMMC, 14 inch FHD Touchscreen. Three years warranty. Recommend by the school.

Bought in Dec 2022 at about S$400.

The CPU is much slower than Intel N100 but she only complained towards the end of P6. Now the laptop has been retired. I will say it is still usable for her school work but for sure not fast. She also used it for YouTube and online gaming like Bloxd.io.

2) Sec 1 (2025). The school recommends Acer TravelMate Spin TMB312RN-31 Convertible, upgrade to Intel N250 CPU, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, with Active Stylus Pen add-on. Three years carry-in Warranty. Price at S$683.40. With device management application installed by the school.

I will still follow the school's recommendation to buy the laptop.

I feel the Acer Travelmate is still very expensive for this kind of specs. The 8GB of memory on Windows is going to make it obsolete sooner than later. For comparison, I got the OnePlus Pad 2 with their stylus for I think around 560 bucks. I understand this is for school use and there are limitations to what we can buy, but comparing to show the Travel Mate cost too much.

Not the best, but definitely one of the most value for money. Zen 3 performance, 3 years warranty, 16GB RAM, 400 nits display.
Ideapad slim 3
