Leaning towards the Aero 15x or razer blade, but supposedly razer doesn't have good QC. What do you guys think?

Razer Blade 15
+ Intel® Wireless-AC 9260
+ Unibody Chassis
+ Easier to access RAM and SSDs
+ Quieter cooling system
- Only 1 M.2 SSD Slot
- Only 1 year warranty
- terrible keyboard layout ('?' key not next to "shift" key)
- No Gsync support
- No LAN Port
- Some say it throttles under load

Gigabyte Aero 15X v8
+ Aluminium Chassis
+ Easier to access RAM and SSDs
+ Does not throttle under load
+ Big 94WH Battery
+ 2 year warranty
+ 2 M.2 SSD Slots
- Uses last gen AC8265 wireless (probably can upgrade if you are brave)
- Higher fan noise measured under load than GS65
- 144hz IPS screen has poorer black levels than GS65
- Higher load temp (65deg)
- No Gsync support

MSI GS65 8RF-078 Stealth Thin
+ Lower load temp (53 deg)
+ 2 M.2 SSD Slots
+ Killer 1550 wifi (rebranded Intel 9260 chip)
+ 144hz screen has better black levels than Aero 15x
- Only 1 year warranty
- USB Ports not intelligently located
- Plastic Chassis not rigid, flexes easily with popping sound
- Must remove MOBO to access RAM?!
- Quieter in db under load, but makes a high pitched whine (softer but more obvious)
- Smaller 82wh battery
- No Gsync support

Asus Zephyrus M GM501
+ Intel 95xx series wifi (same performance as Intel 9260)
+ gsync AND optimus support (choose one in bios)
+ fast samsung SM961 SSD
- noisier under load, than GX501 (1080 maxq)
- VA screen, not ips
- no lan port ?!
- Tiny battery (52wh)

HP Omen 15

But what matters to you? Ultra light is the most important thing? Upgradability? Specs? etc...

Went for the Gigabyte Aero 15X v8, it seems pretty well put together, doesnt look like a "gaming" laptop and can pass for a "buisness" one, which is a good thing in my book. Its quite lightweight and easy to carry around too.

If battery life is the most important to you, get the Gigabyte Aero 15, its battery is the biggest with Nvidia Optimus, giving you a fantastic battery life of min 7-8 hours for office productive work. Then when you need to game, you definitely need power supply.

The only other worthy contenders in terms of battery life (but still lesser) would be the Razer Blade 15 and MSI GS65.

This was quite a hard decision for myself as i know i wanted the flexibility of a gaming laptop option so minimum was GTX 1060. But it had to be relatively light and slim also. With such requirements, the potential list significantly narrows.

Hi TS, not trying to hijack your thread but the set of laptops that you are looking at is very similar to what i was looking for.

2 slight differences is that battery life is not an concern for me as it's usually plugged in and mainly as a desktop replacement laptop (only need to travel with it twice/thrice a year)

I will be traveling to USA in 1-2 weeks time and will be buying it in USA.
Had the first generation of Alienware 17 and just wondering why Alienware is not included in your list (maybe due to portability).
Budget around USD$2k.

Planning to play Fallout 76 and Red dead redemption 2 in High to Ultra mode.

Alienware 17 R5

Bro, alienware and LIGHTWEIGHT are two terms that dont go together. The current Alienware is so unnecessarily outdated heavy and bulky and expensive it feels like it was made for 2010. You had the alienware 17, so you should know how horrendously bulky and heavy those monsters are.

It's rumoured refresh is slimmer and lighter yes, but still ugly as hell and just not worth the cost when u look at its competitors.

If u can buy a laptop in the US, definitrly go for it but rmb two things:

1) If u bring back to sg make sure its in a used condition ie. No box, no wrapper etc. Or you get charged tax rofl.

2) Check if there's international warranty

USD 2k is enough for a Razer Blade 15 1060 MaxQ equipped. I'd say get that or the ROG Zephyrus.

If you want a 1070 equipped slim laptop even in the US you're gonna have to bump your budget up. Razer Blade 15 with a 1070 max Q goes for 2.4k USD with 256gb SSD.

if you look at their list it's all the thin and light gaming laptops, even the thread title says lightweight

they didnt put in the alienware 17 for the same reason that they didn't put stuff like MSI GT73 or Asus G703
