I wonder what's going on. So angry, again receive another S&CC late payment bill reminder from Hougang/Aljunied/Sengkang TC when the bill have already been paid up.

Call up the finance dept and they said the Giro deduction is on 28th May. However, the bill have already been paid on 23rd May. So they just said to ignore the letter.

Wow, then why send it out in the 1st place. You may say it's automated, but the catch is shouldn't there be some ownership over the stupid system. If they can see on their system that the amount have been paid up, then the system shouldn't bill me again for that "Phantom Outstanding Amount". Shouldn't it be updated in their so called Automated System?

Imagine if I have left money inside, wouldn't there be double deduction? So what happens when that occurs? If this happens to some old folks or others who didn't bother to check, they would be happily deducting away without any accountability.

Reflect to them and they will only give standard pacifying reply.

Seems like they also learn fast.

Why do we have to keep getting pounded by such stupid letters in the 1st place if they had done their job.

This happens more often than you think, and is pretty unavoidable in many sense. System generated, automated. Nothing much they can do. I know we don't like it, but that's how it is.

First, there is no double deduction.

Second, your story does not gel. GIRO deduction on 28 May but bill paid on 23 May? Ignoring 24 (Vesak), 25 (Sat) and 26 (Sun), it should at the very least reflect 27 May.

Third, your question directed to the TC would be, can the deduction be made earlier to avoid such incident, therefore to create the buffer days for situation like this.

just some clarification incase. we were told by their newsletter that every resident will be making personal payment. Nothing were said about those who had Giro deduction etc. So we waited for their bill. Instead receive the penalty bill dated 15 May.

Proceeded to pay on 23May. Then receive 2nd bill saying outstanding amount not paid.

Call them up and clarify and they said the deduction date is on 28May. So when system not able to deduct, letter is sent out. But their system already show that we make cash payment on 23.

So do you see the problem. When to all stat board, whatever party, please take the effort to monitor the system. I don't think that's too much to ask. We are already receiving a lot of junk mail etc so I don't need anymore of these letters to stress me further.

Nah, this is a case of not building in the reconciliation feature between the cash collection/mgmt and the bill generation. This is not rocket science.

This happens quite often seriously, from telephone bills to utility bills. Usually at the end of the reminder, it says Ignore this if you already paid up.

Hehehe.. You are absolutely right. But would it surprise you if I said it happens to banks and telcos as well?
