Using an old Biostar A780L3G for the past 5 years. This board is for my AMD Athlon II 640 CPU.

A780L3G :: Motherboard :: BIOSTAR

Was thinking of upgrading my GPU which is a HD6870 but am not sure if the newer cards can even boot on my MOBO.

The BIOS on Biostar website don't seem to get update past 2011 for this board. So I'm pretty sure my board is quite a derelict.

Question to any users of this board, what is the best GPU upgrade this board can support? I was thinking about the newer GTX760 or R9280x but I think this board BIOS may be it's undoing.

Any advice would be great.

Your processor will still be the bottleneck regardless of what GPU upgrade you decide to do.

Erm. Single threaded performance of that CPU is the same as the lowest end celery today. :s22:

got a PCIE 2.0 slot, can use any GPU.

My 6 year old DFI LANParty DK P45-T2RS+ motherboard is able to run my R9 290 without any problems. And DFI company even closed down, no more support for the mobo :s13:

Thank you all for the feedback. Yeah I know its pretty old. Just worried a new graphic card might not be recognized by the motherboard BIOS.

Any users of the board? Just want to know how far they manage to upgrade without problems.

Not worried about bottlenecks as the card will be re-useable if I decide to upgrade the CPU next time.
