Hi, I bought a new DELL SE2417HG monitor and its giving very weird black colors, like they look really gray. Like when I set the windows desktop background to the stock black color, it looks fine on my laptop, but somehow it turns gray on the monitor. Picture attached below.

Anyone have any idea? Should I ask for an exchange?

I tried factory resetting the monitor already and changed cables from HDMI to VGA and changed input devices too.

It's weird cos this was to replace an even worse TN panel from 2009 but that one had deeper blacks than this one.

RIP. this is why u dont buy a TN panel, especially a low end one. I bought an IPS 75hz lg 23.8" monitor a couple months back for 150$, blacks are deep, colours are vibrant and decently accurate with 72% NTSC

Windows has some built-in colour calibration tools. Suggest to try that. I assume you've already adjusted your monitor's brightness/contrast to be something sane.

Just google limited and full rgb. Especially when you indicate HDMI or VGA as your form of connection.

This is what happens when costs keep going lower and also when screens keep getting thinner.

Also people like to confuse specs with quality. New products definitely have better specs yes. But quality? Some things the cost doesn't become lower just because they are newer e.g. camera lens.

Lol at all the technical terms popping out. Hint: All these do not explain why the bleed is uneven

Just ask for an exchange. Chances are it may be the same or even worse, but at least you know it is not the unit's fault.

This wasn't even cheap at $150, and I was comparing it with a 2011 TN panel and a 2009 TN panel and it has worse black than both:s22:. :s13:

Tried that thanks. Yup adjusted the full range of brightness/contrast but its just the black that is super messed up and doesn't seem to change. The other colors still acceptable.

Back in 2006-2008 my Acer 15" monitor, also have this when its on the windows XP default screen saver mode, or black background. Its monitor issue..

Alright then, thanks.

Wasn't even really cheap at $150 nor thin. Yeah I requested an exchange through Prime Now, but turns out they don't exchange they just refund. And the most messed up part is have to find your own courier to return it.:s22: I'm sticking to Lazada next time, so much easier to return.:s13:

It is some serious back light bleeding. Anyway, 150 don't sound like a good price to pay since I can find IPS monitors for about the same price, if not just slightly higher.

if you are returning this, i reccomend u go for IPS unless you are planning to game at 144 or 240hz. Even if TN technically can achieve the same colour gamut, the viewing angle alone makes it unusable, especially compared to an IPS that cost around the same.

The LG 24mk430h is 139$ on shopee or around 145-155 on lazada. Not the most stable of stands, shakes when i kick the table but other than that its a very good panel, especially if u use freesync.

dell has some very well priced 24 and 27 IPS monitors as well.

Isn't this the hallmark of a tn panel monitor?

More like the Hallmark of shyt monitor

10 years ago when TN panels cost $400 where got this problem

Laptops using TN panels where got this problem

Gaming monitors using TN panels where got this problem... Oh wait

Somewhat reminds me of my old Samsung 17 inch lcd monitor back in 2003. Amazed at the flat screen technology. Quickly realized the old 17inch crt monitor has better picture.

I compare to all the old TN screens I have none have black problems like this lol.

I got tempted by the 3 years onsite warranty compared to the IPS Acer with only one year. :o

I still have my 10 year old Acer Ferrari F22. TN screen but superb colour saturation and blacks, just like VA screen. Matter of QC.

my lenovo y410p, not even that old, just 4 years has the worst screen ive seen, until i saw the 5 and 6 year old lenovo budget gaming models. Good thing that the laptop industry is all moving to IPS, albeit low quality ones on budget laptops, but still far superior than the old TN panels.
