Released for limited phones e.g from Pixel 7 onwards, and Samsung S23 onwards

According to reddit, some limited success with other phones via apk installation.

Feels like a soft launch, still not as fully featured as iphone equivalent, but way more controls shooting videos over my native Pixel 7 Pro.

Runs pretty smoothly, better than running MotionCam which episodically freezes.

Trying to self learn some video lor.

Encountered several issues with P7P, cannot fix WB during video makes coloring so tough from clip to clip, jumping from macro to normal video the WB can also change halfway .. no Log .. videos in dimmer environments are practically useless. . BM Camera seems to be able to give better control than Pixel cam ..

Installed this on my Pixel 6a running GrapheneOS.
Took a few 24fps clips for fun, but unfortunately cannot play on Windows 10 players without paying for the H265 codec.

The latest Blackmagic Camera 1.4 update is now rolling out for Android. The headline additions are support for several Sony Xperia and Oppo devices and Bluetooth mic connectivity.

Since its launch earlier this year, the third-party camera application has received numerous updates. Even after our full hands-on with version 1.1, the Blackmagic Camera application is already more robust and becoming a strong contender for the best camera application on Android.

The Blackmagic Camera 1.4 update was confirmed by the official Blackmagic account on Threads, with yet more Android phones now able to utilize the app. Sony Xperia 1, 5, and Pro-I hardware plus Oppo phones are now supported. However, Blackmagic does not specify which Oppo phones are able to use the app, just “compatible Oppo devices” which isn’t all that helpful. We’d wager you could install on most recent flagship Oppo phones and enjoy the camera application.

Other improvements include the ability to set the recording bitrate when using H.264 and H.265 codecs. This could be a huge feature for those that want to record to external devices such as SD cards and SSDs, as you can adjust the bitrate for better quality footage or drop to help save space.

What’s New for Blackmagic Camera for Android 1.4:
– Audio monitoring while recording.
– Support for bluetooth microphones.
– Support for Tentacle Sync for recording timecode sync.
– Recording bit rate options for H.264 and H.265 codecs.
– Support for compatible Oppo devices.
– Support Sony Xperia series 1, 5 and Pro-I devices.
– General performance and stability improvements.

Another big change in Blackmagic Camera 1.4 is the ability to use paried Bluetooth microphones like lavalier or lapel mics as audio sources within the application. Previously, this was limited to wired audio systems, but this means you can use other options and hopefully your in-ear earbuds as audio sources. To help with this, audio monitoring is also now available while recording.

The final major change is the addition of support for Tentacle Sync when using timecode sync. This Bluetooth tool syncs the in-camera audio with audio/external recorders. This might be useful on professional shoots but is of little use to hobbyists.

Blackmagic Camera 1.4 is already rolling out on the Google Play Store.

Months after bringing the update to iPhone and iPad hardware, Blackmagic Camera 2.0 is now available for Android phones and, for the first time, selected Android tablets.

Announced in an official blog post, the update includes a number of important tweaks to the impressive pro-level camera system shoehorned into mobile phones. Blackmagic Camera 2.0 for Android has a lot of neat new functions for specific phones, but the headline function is support for the Galaxy Tab S9 and Xiaomi Pad 6. No other Android tablets are listed, but it may work should you try and sideload. The interface has been altered slightly to account for the larger screen real estate, but Blackmagic did not confirm if all modes are included here.

  • Supports controlling multiple phones with Blackmagic Camera.
  • Support for Samsung S25, S25+ and S25 Ultra phones.
  • Support for selected Android tablets including Xiaomi Pad 6 and Samsung Tab S9.
  • Support for Tilta Nucleus USB devices for lens control.
  • Ability to drag-select multiple media clips.
  • Support for German user interface.
  • Support for 120 and 240 fps on supported Sony Xperia devices.
  • General performance and stability improvements.

We’ve seen the app steadily gain more and more functions to put it on par with the iOS equivalent, the Blackmagic Camera 2.0 update for Android phones now lets you set your device as the controller for any other Blackmagic cameras connected to the same Wi-Fi network. On top of that, Tilta Nucleus USB devices can also be used for specific lens control. For professional multi-cam shoots, this might prove to be an invaluable asset.

blackmagic camera 2.0 android

The recently released Galaxy S25 series is the latest Android phone lineup to be added to the “official” support list with Blackmagic Camera 2.0, which means you’ll be able to utilize full manual lens control, increased video recording codecs, and further LOG profiles. If you happen to have a Sony Xperia phone, you will now be able to record 120 and 240fps video for the first time. This will allow for slo-mo footage in post should you want to use the function.

Blackmagic’s changelog also notes support for German language interfaces and, finally, the ability to drag and select multiple media files at once from the internal app library.

Blackmagic Camera 2.0 for Android is available free of charge and can be downloaded from the Google Play Store on supported devices.
