I'll be getting a new Crossover 2720mdp 1440p soon, and im looking to buy build a new pc for it.

Will reuse: case, psu

What's the minimum build to game/movie on 1440p? Actually not much gaming, as probably only cs:go. my main pc using r9 280x, wondering if i should get another, for xfire in the future when upgrade.

Please advise.

Reconsider your options. Not gaming much but would want a 1440p rig.

Take note that movies do not have 1440p standards. Mostly are 1080p and 720p from bluray.

You are better off getting a 1080p 120hz or 144hz monitor if you just gaming for cs go.

What casing are you using? What psu are you using? How old is the psu?

Xfire a 280x now not worth it. 280x going to turn obsolete very soon. And for you to xfire you will need a z87 and z97 board to xfire with x8x8 bandwidth. Reconsider your options instead.

Thanks for your insight, found them quite useful. However, my main reason for going 1440p is for the screen estate. I use a 24" 1920x1200 dual monitor at home, and for this rig im thinking of just using a large 27" instead of getting two. I will also be gaming casually for now, so still fine with the refresh rate.

I just want a rig that would be able to support such support, while I do the occasional gaming/movies.

My case is a CM Centurion and PSU FSP 500W Gold Aurum, 2-3 years old i think?

I guess I wont get a 280x then, what would be the better option? the gtx970?

If its just CS:GO, r9 280 is overkill for it le.

Can list out your full current rig specs?

Yea shadow bro mentioned, if its only for cs:go , a single 280 should be enuf even for 1440p

I think 1440p is a great idea, after I went there I didnt go back and instead upgraded to 1600p

get a GTX 970 thru Lazada - 448 SGD - 10% (promo code thru the app), and then use Frank Card 6% rebate = about 370 SGD

A Gtx 970 for 370! Imagine that!

Much much better than a r9 280 (Thats like a rebadged 7950 which I remember buying at 399 in 2012 during the corbell NDP promo haha)

Get the 970 quick, we dont know how long the promo code or convergent will hold the pricing.

Lazada considered non SG website? It also need min $500 before u can get the 6% cash rebate..

The old rig that im salvaging is not my current rig, at the moment thats running on 7800gt, old. I need to build another one separate from the right with the 280.

I'll have a look at the 970, sounds like a good deal.
