Hi,

Would like to seek some advise
I need a laptop for basic classroom work as i have a gaming desktop alr.
I am looking for a ultra portable laptop 1kg type, that can run less than 5 tabs of chrome, powerpoint, words, very basic classroom usage.
tahan at least 3-4 years.
Screen size 11 inch is ok.
My budget is 300-400.
Not looking at chromebook.

I am looking at ASUS E200HA/ Lenovo 100S @ around 280 given some discount.
specs for e200ha
Intel® Quad-Core Atom™ x5-Z8300 Processor, (2 M Cache, up to 1.84 GHz)
DDR3 MHz SDRAM, OnBoard Memory 2 GB
- 32GB eMMC storage

like to ask if e200ha/100s is worth the 300? or is there better options?

TIA!

Get one with at least non-Atom processor and 4GB RAM. If less than that, it will feel definitely slow.

There are configurations having Celeron N3060 with onboard 4GB RAM.
Found this in quick checking:

SGD 288 @ Punggol Plaza

What the above said. I have a tablet with Z8350 and 4GB ram and 64GB storage and it feels very unresponsive even though it does have the specified processing power.

Get a two core Kaby Lake or Skylake with a proper HDD or SSD.

Celeron N3060 is a two-core Atom btw. Z8300 is four.

I am using a Intel quad core N2940 processor. My experience is so far good so long I am willing to wait for the laptop to respond or wait for web pages to download. Windows update takes a long time. So long I am patient, I can bear with it.

Couple of days back, the Surface 3 was selling at 499 and 549 with touch cover. :(

Now it's back to that price but without cover

that is reasonable. when you have the chance and spare cash, get an SSD to replace the hard disk inside, and you'll feel a world of difference.

I am using SSD. Based on the task manager, it is usually the processors utilization at maximum...
Hard disk/SSD utilization is usually below 10%...

Bumping this thread

Anyone can recommend a laptop for me? Looking to get one for my mom. Usage is web browsing and watching shows.

Requirements
IPS display (preferably >1366x768, 1600x900 is fine)
Pentium G equivalent of the desktop cpu? Core N? Not really sure about laptop CPUs. Not an atom preferably.
SSD preferred but not required as long as the hard disk is replaceable with an ssd.

No budget, but keeping it as low as possible would be nice.

Do check out the tech show portals for both CEE and PCShow :)
As the show starts, more offerings will be uploaded and there should be one for your needs.

Atom isn't that bad to be honest. It was slow and sluggish last time, but it's quad core now and fairly quick if not much multi tasking is done (Spotify, adobe reader and chrome (with a couple of tabs).

Do consider them as well.

I think Pentium G equivalent would be something like i5-3000U is an equivalent? Or i3-4000U

Can someone confirm? :)

Any comments about http://www.lazada.sg/chuwi-lapbook-156-inch-fhd-screen-windows-10-laptop-intel-atom-x5cherry-trail-z8350-cpu-4gb-ram-64gb-rom-white-intl-10845850.html?ff=1

My only concern is the CPU performance and maybe malware/spyware which I can probably solve by doing a clean install or installing linux.

Have found some <$400 SGD 14.1" models that has the N3450.

I'm just comparing like i5 laptop = i5 desktop, i7 laptop = i7 desktop.

Don't need the performance of the pentium G but more like one-tier down from the i3 for the laptop side.
Anyway, found out; should be the Celeron/Pentium.

No.. not really. I have heard but am not familiar with the brand.

Do consider parts and warranty support when making a decision.
