Buying OPC converting to Normal

Hi Guys

I'm looking to buy a car. The advise I have from friends is get a used car of about 3 years old and one with low milage.

The cars I notice which have low milage are OPC cars. Hence, it got me wondering if it makes sense to buy an OPC car then pay to convert it to normal to find that sweet spot. Let's assume I can pay the down payment, top up the difference, insurance, etc.

This can help me narrow down (or maybe expand) my scope while I am hunting for a car.

Generally OPC cars are not phv cars, it has less mileage. But there is added administrative work to convert and the upfront cost to Lta. It still better to have the car checked by inspection center to ensure it’s in v good condition.

Agree. The admin cost is $100.
I bought an OPC, with the intention to convert it to black after 2 years of usage.

Scope as in the type of car? Since mileage is your main concern, getting a AD car with full service record for piece of mind. Most dealer will be able to convert for you so not much hassle. As other stated, you can also DIY.

Great, so it is not absurd or silly to consider going down this route. I think the 100 dollar admin fee is worth the opportunity of picking up a low mileage car (and of course topping up the COE) Or get it from an AD and have them do the paperwork for me.

Looking for a 6 seater (station wagon maybe?) as we may need to occasionally use it to ferry my wife's family.

Just get from dealer and mention u wish to convert to normal plate and they will settle the paper work and work out the sum for you.
FYI, the dep might not be necessary lower than normal plate car of similar mileage and age.

Ok thanks. I don't expect it to be lower. All I hope to achieve is a similarly priced normal plate, second hand car but with lower mileage than the others.

i'd done before~ conversion is pretty straight forward~ drove the OPC to LTA Sin Ming office, get queue no, fill in R10 form, pay cash in counter, after done you can drive nearby workshop to change the plate~ there's one directly opposite LTA that specialise on carplate~ everything done in 2hrs~ the queue took the most time~

you can download the R10 form fill in first or get it from the counter~ :s22:

I have a silly question. Does on still require to pay $20 for the e-day license that day?

By converting to normal plate, costs involved is just the $100 fee + the pro rated amount of the $17k rebate?

Technically the day of conversion is the normal plate. Just convert and see the start date of the conversion. If it is the day itself, then save the $20.

Just curious who will be responsible to break the seal? The workshop that make the new car plate?

Dealers can still change numbers on odometers, don't forget that...

My current Myvi has 160+k km after 9+ years, which is a lot to me...

My previous T11 has 50+k km just after 3 years.

See how thier usage... Better to get cars with records and everything, or test every single thing...

I myself, retained the ROPC plate, since i don't find use during day time, but only night time, so just perfect...

I did the same many years ago - buying a second hand OPC, then converting to normal plate and driving for 5 years until scrap. At that time, I let the car dealer handle the conversion.

TS, buying pre-owned is always a challenge and what you think of? others can think of and counter that too.

I can understand that buying a OPC due to low usage, but like bro said, millage can be tampered with, be it buying from dealer or direct owner. Except from direct owner, the risk of mileage been tampered with is lower.

To reduce the risk of tampered mileage, just get one with full service record with AD. Date and mileage all recorded with AD and unlikely dealer will try to adjust too much.
