Based on the quotes alone and politics aside, it is first and foremost distasteful and insensitive.

I think the moral of the story is, try not to post things that you would possibly not say in real life.

Unless I say I'm going to do violence - that's illegal. A death wish is not an offence.

So I think there's an over moderation by some Mods who are just way too sensitive or unaware of what exactly constitutes free speech within the meaning of the Law.

You are still subject to the T&Cs of the forum.

So is for the admins/mods to decide what’s kosher and what’s not. They don’t have to apply the same standard as other platforms.

I think mods needn't have to act on every post flagged by someone who might an SJW or feel offended at every unflattering remark. Perhaps a deletion would be better served.

We read and respond to all reports sent to us via our reporting system. However, not all reports warrant action. In fact, for sharing, the bulk majority of reports we received are read, reviewed and rejected with no further action taken on them. So the inferred and perceived notion that we are a bunch of action happy moderators is noted but untrue.

The forum has largely permitted the expression of free speech and constructive debates. I will cite the anti vax vs vax threads to support this point of view. As long as no egregious name calling / parent insulting remarks / misinformation embedded in them - we have not controlled any narrative nor intend to do so. It is encouraged to vaccinate but it’s also within one’s personal prerogative to do so.

To your suggestion on the deletion of posts, we have been and continue to delete posts for lesser offences. The reason for deletion is also sent via the forum’s notification system to inform users why their post or posts were deleted.

This is my personal view. I don't think it is offensive unless I go to their forum or websites or FB pages and say these very things.

We do what’s the right thing regardless.

Not saying something in someone’s face doesn’t mean that the content itself is acceptable nor dismisses itself as non offensive to other users. It doesn’t give anyone the right to write and broadcast hate speech or attacks against the unrepresented. I will cite one example here:

Guess this hits closer to home and it is a local forum so there will undoubtedly be more emphasis on moderation in that context.

Also, I don’t think there is such a thing as free speech online, we are all subject to the authorities of this forum.

like you said, you can criticise ministers, presidents, your family, your colleagues, actors, journalists, schooling and basically everything, but as long you it’s the higher ups here, you get points/ban… way to ooversensitive…

Or simply to use an English slang, a jobsworth.
Taking things way too seriously for minor stuff. But letting the big ones slip through.
For example I had to email the CID Director over a thread here (since deleted). Why deleted rather than locked for the purpose of investigations I dunno.
So much they replied they cant see the content and would probably have to write in to SPH to retrieve it.
That was way more serious as potential offences under the OSA or others seem to have been triggered.

Anyway it's getting kinda pretty boring. No explanation will be given for the comments about Vijay only template replies - discretion of mods etc.
They don't even want to have new elections for Mods. It's become like a membership club for a select few.

There are layers of checks.
Above mods there are super mods and above super mods are admin.

the upstairs can also see all the issues being brought up.

if reach the top layer and they don’t think there’s any over moderation, lack of impartiality or applying own standards, then it’s their prerogative.

I don’t think forum T&Cs say everything is about democracy here.

if you are unhappy with the rules, you definitely can voice out and ask for consideration to change, but if they don’t think it should be changed, then you have to decide whether you want to stay within the boundary of the rules and don’t get any penalty, or still try to push the limit and get penalty.
