The OS on my main SSD is corrupt and I need to reformat the drive to install a fresh copy of Windows. It happened that I have multiple drives connected including my backup drive.
Could not install Windows on the main screen after booting up from usb bootable drive. Went into cmd and use diskpart to reformat the drive. I forgot the commands and went to google it. It said that I would need to list volume in diskpart I did so. Unfortunately, I confused list volume with list disk and accidentally use diskpart clean and then format ntfs to format the backup drive.
There was no other option but to proceed with fresh installation from my main drive as there wasn't any operating system. After installation, I checked the backup drive. Sure enough, everything is wiped clean with nothing left.
Tried all sorts of software including EaseUS and still did not manage to retrieve my files. I also called a data recovery store and told them about my situation. That guy said that recovering it is almost impossible. It could have still been saved had I not proceeded further than diskpart clean.
I am now kicking myself for not disconnecting my backup drive when doing a fresh installation of Windows. Is there any way the data could be saved?
I've attended a PC course. The trainer told us that SPF is still able to recover data from the very first even if the drive has been reformatted up to 7 times. Is such a service available?
The data is quite important as I have been transferring from different computers from 2004 till now. It holds sentimental value.
