Cant decide between imac & MBP

I know this is dumb but can’t decide which to get. My 27” 2013 imac is still working but showing sounds of slowing down. The start up is noticeably slower than before.

Am planning on replacing it but cant decide with what. Cost wise another 27” imac makes most sense as its cheaper than MBP & has higher specs. Plus i dont need to buy any extras except for magic trackpad 2 cos i prefer it to mouse. And i’ll upgrade hdd to 512gb SSD.

15” MBP at $3488 costs significantly more & the specs are lower than imac (except for the 16gb ram). And i still need to buy USB C hub & ethernet dongle. But its portable. I dont expect to bring it about much but having a less space consuming notebook at home is a bonus.

Meaning replace your iMac's built in hard drive with a solid state drive, before installing a fresh copy of OS 10.13.x

And if inadequate, bump up your iMac's RAM to 32GB. 16GB at the very least.

Your 2013 iMac is still a capable machine. You only need to perform these upgrades to realise its true potential.

For the laptop verses desktop debate, if you do not need portability, buy a desktop.

U don’t need 32gb ram . Unless you are doing some killing task. If not I don’t think you need 32gb ram.

For my programming , I can’t even fully use the 16gb ram.

Unless you are doing intense video and photo editing at the same time

Am still on iMac 2011 version 10.13.6, for 7years with 8Gb ram and HDD running...still working great...basically i only use simple application like words and excel. Sometimes i do use Affinity Designer for some basic graphic works....feel good too.

If i have to buy, will definitely be another iMac for sure....

I use mine mostly for web browsing and watching videos. Occasional word processing and a bit of simply video editing on iMovies. TBH mine is still ok if not for the long boot time and how sometimes I get the spinning beach ball while waiting for things to happen.

Guess I'll wait for the next iMac to come out before deciding. Whenever that is!!

Mine took about 2 mins to appear for me to key-in password, then another less than 1 min to load up all my applications appear on too right corner....

Just swap the HDD with an SSD. The performance increase you get is like getting a new machine.
