I've used Hertz multiple times. They're a bit more expensive, but I've never had a problem with them.

Yep.

De nada.

with AUD 3000 excess means that in the event of an accident.. the amount you had to pay is AUD 3000 if the claim is > AUD3000, rest will be borne by insurance company. if < AUD3000, you will have to pay whatever the amt claimed.

i will be going up in early Aug, let me know which company you choose and also the review :)

cheers!

If you are willing to try out smaller operators, you may want to check out Car2Go. Quite a number of positive reviews by Singaporeans both here and on TA.

Rented from them when I visited Gold Coast about half a year ago. Good service and even got a free upgrade to an i30, which is at least 2 classes above the Getz which I originally booked. They offer pretty competitive rates if you take into account excess reduction and free rental of GPS. Pick up and drop off (at 7am for the 9am Scoot flight) is also not an issue as they will send a representative to the airport to meet you directly.

Otherwise, any of the majors which are based at the airport should also be fine!

Check out east coast car rentals. It provides a significantly lower rate compared to the typical ones like hertz, Avis, budget etc..
Furthermore, most companies will give and offer if you rent for 7 days or more (eg. Buy 5 days get 2 days free).
However, never never take the insurance as it is one big scam. If you are the cause of the accident, you will still eventually have to pay for the damage caused, and sacrifice your bond.

It could mean asking you to buy extra insurance to cover in case of accident

Yes of course. I think it's easier to drive than SG. BUT very importantly, keep within their speed limit and always park at their designated spots. Because their fines are 10 times higher and it's in AUD currency. No joke. I was a victim. :D

That depends where are you going. If its Gold Coast, then I suggest rent a car. Gold Coast is not like East Coast Park where you can literally walk from one end to the other.

Gold Coast beach is ENDLESS! They have different names like Surfers Paradise etc. etc. Aside from visiting those theme parks where public transport is provided, my advice is to visit mountains and parks around the area which a car is definitely a must!

You do not need an IDP for short-term driving in Australia because our local driving licence is in English. Just use the Singapore driving licence...

Hi guys. I'll be traveling to GC come end of April. What are the parking rates like in and around the city? What about toll roads and such?

By the way, I checked with AA Singapore and they mentioned that some rental car companies in Australia would prefer if the drivers possess an IDP.

Best if you check with your car rental company directly (whether they will be more comfortable with an IDP). As far as the law is concerned, you do not need an IDP because the Singapore driving licence is recognised in Australia for short-term driving.

No toll roads in GC region unless you are driving to Brisbane on the motorway (which is not a good idea in itself due to the expensive parking in the city).

Is there toil road in Brisbane? I don't recall any. Anyway, for rental car - If you get hertz or Avis, you should be fine. I had no issues with them using SG license.

Yeah Hertz has discounts if you are an AA IDP holder. AUD$20 off. What about parking in Gold Coast city?

Drive Safely! Speed limit in Australia are strictly enforced. If not wrong, the tolerance is +4-6km/h only compared to 10km/h here.

If you see a vehicle on the opposite side flashing its highbeam for no apparent reason, it means there's a speed trap in front of you. Also, some vehicles that look inconspicuously pulled over may actually be a speed trap with its camera at the front - not noticeably until you pass the vehicle.

But dont worry lah..TP there are still human too.. you can still floor it at some ulu roads :D

Gateway and Logan Motorways, if I don't remember wrongly. Can avoid by using the other motorways (e.g. Pacific Motorway).
