Hi all, just would like to check if the HAF 912 Advanced casing from Cooler Master is still relevant in today's DIY PC? I would like to upgrade my rig as it had a PSU problem and I thought it is about time since it has been 4 years since I got my computer.

Your casing has excellent GPU and CPU cooler clearances and front panel USB 3.0 ports which is everything that a modern casing will have. Why bother changing your casing? Casings are very hard to get obsolete unless your casing is very small or is very prone to rusting.

i'm using it now wif my current hardware still sufficient at the moment. Good casing can mount 6 120mm fans. Still thinking of changing it to corsair 760t tho.

New rig?

my USB ports is kinda prone to rusting though. im sure the ports are still working because i was still using it before it had a PSU problem. my spare PSU cannot support the crossfire that I am running as it is only 620W.

I was just worried that modern mobo or gpu have gotten too big for my HAF 912. I am not that savvy with the newer stuffs so would just wanna seek assurance that I can still use back the same casing.

While we are at it, can you help me to come up with a rig for gaming for about $1200 thereabouts? I play mainly dota 2 and would like to be playing some of the new FF series on computer.

I do not need peripherals and monitor (dell 23") but wouldn't mind upgrading my monitor should I be using a much better gpu. I have existing OS so would not need that either. the spare PSU that I have and doesn't work for me is a 620W Seasonic. I'll edit my post and post up existing rig in a min so would appreciate any help.

This is my existing rig.

CPU+MB: Intel Core i5-2500K + ASUS P8Z68-V Pro
HSF: Xigmatek Gaia
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 CL9 8GB Dual Channel Kit [Blue]
GPU: Sapphire HD 6950 Dirt3 1GB X2 Crossfire
SSD: Crucial RealSSD M4 128GB [SATA III]
HDD: Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000.C 1TB [SATA III]
ODD: Lite-On 24X CD/DVD Writer [Retail]
PSU: FSP Aurum 750w [80 Plus GOLD] SPARE: Seasonic M12II Bronze 620W
CASE:Cooler Master HAF 912 Advanced (With USB 3.0) @ $140

dont get this HAF 912 Advance casing
the screws and standoff for the motherboard does not fit. i have to go to ban leong to exchange for new ones.

Hi,

I do not have much problem with this casing while doing the DIY in the past though with the help from the nice ppl in HWZ. the only thing about this casing which I felt was bad is that it is a tad too bulky to be moving around especially when you need to bring it to somewhere to repair something.

Erm, your rig looks pretty fine to me, not very sure if an upgrade is even needed, let alone a completely new rig.

DOTA 2 and the Final Fantasy(?) series are not very demanding to run. Think one of your HD 6950s is good enough to play either of your games at max settings as both DOTA 2 and FFXIV are not that graphically demanding at all and that the rest of the Final Fantasy PC ports are actually locked at a resolution of 720p, which is a very easy resolution to run. Can just pull out one of your HD 6950s and keep as spare GPU, just use one HD 6950 for your games, save electricity bill.

Mobos all come in pretty standard sizes, an ATX mobo today would be about the same size as an ATX mobo from 10 years ago, no such thing as mobo size inflation.

The longest GPUs so far are also only about 310mm at most, the HAF 912 Advanced can have a GPU clearance of 390mm after you remove the middle HDD drive cage. 390mm is a lot of space, no need to be afraid that the GPU is too long for the case.

I have a problem that overloads my 12V rail even when running on 1 6950 (not even overclocking) after my original 750W PSU went bonkers. My computer cannot be switched on ie it powers on and then went dead by itself and will keep repeating the process. I was told by some members that it is a problem with my PSU. So I got myself the 620W one. Still I have the same problem running with 1 6950. Do you have any idea how I can solve this?

Change PSU also cannot? Oh no, then it might be a mobo problem.

Can consider bringing down your rig to PC Care & Solution, #02-32, Sim Lim Square, and ask Nigel to take a look at the rig and test your mobo to see if it is mobo problem. Can also discuss upgrade options or mobo replacement options with him if it is really an issue with your mobo.
