CCNA self study

Does anyone self study and passed the CCNA exam? I been googling and found many video guides and materials on CCNA online. The only downsides I see are that I will not have access to Cisco routers and switches. But can I still use Cisco packet tracer as an alternative? or should I just take a CCNA course.
