Change mobo now black screen mouse pointer

I just changed mobo for an old c2d system on windows vista and I'm unable to boot to windows.

Symptoms: able to see windows loading screen, next black screen with mouse pointer

Steps taken: systems recovery disk
- unable to reach PE environment
- only shows windows loading files
- reboot to windows loading screen
- blue screen with mouse pointer

Can I drop the nuke and reinstall another OS like win7 ? Without PE environment?

Any help is useful tks

Win 7 should be fine on this old system.

You change mobo of cos need to reinstall OS lah.

im surprised u know how to change mobo, but not know that you need to reinstall windows if you change mobo

I think change mobo to a similar chipset should be ok. Eg p35 to p35 and so on.

Or from H81 to H110 (done it and it works)

Or from an AMD M690 to Intel GM45 (done it and it works)

I do know that windows reinstall is required but the thing is I can't seem to load to windows pe environment to do so.
I have tried to install via windows 7 OS CD and this happens


- windows is loading files (about 2hrs)
- reboot to black screen with mouse pointer

U need to delete the windows partition

It depend on which board and new configuration. Think Microsoft list down which condition if Windows need to reactivate. Re install is not necessary.

Before Windows start, hit F8 see if you can go Windows safe mode. You have not say if new board and cpu is same as old one.

Suspect your HDD maybe having bad sectors.
