I have an old prepaid singtel regular size SIM card. Does anybody here know if singtel will change it to a micro SIM card for free or must I pay for it?

You can try call in and ask for a waiver.
I had a legacy Singtel POD Prepaid SIM since 2003, manage to get it replaced with 3in1 SIM card in 2017. Maybe I can get it waived because I have use the number more than 13 years.

Just cut... I did it before from micro to nano using scissors (not recommended but it works!)

You can buy the cutting tool on ebay or whatever for less than $5.

just make sure you use sharp scissors. if the scissors are kinda dull they'll have a hard time cutting the metal part and the result won't likely be good

Before you cut your sim card,

Please head down to your Telco and ask for a replacement. Most of the time they will do it 1 time free. If you are a prepaid user, just bring down your old sim with your phone and they will replace it on the spot.

Why spend $2 or $5 to cut it. After the sim cutting If it don't work you got to pay for replacement.

Most phones' SIM slots nowadays are all nano, rather than cutting to micro, its better to try and ask for a free 3-in-1 replacement because you may need to go from micro to nano in the future anyway.

Try finish the credit in your Singtel Prepaid and port to Starhub $8 prepaid card. After that you can port back to Singtel Prepaid. This way you should be able to get 3in1 sim card.

I recall the older rule is that you pay $38 for the sim card change, the $38 will be credited to your main account after the Sim card change.

Misleading.

Prepaid Number cannot be port out.

Prepaid Number simcard can only PORT out to other telco when you convert to Postpaid plan from origin issued telco.

Please refer to the link below for Mobile Number porting faq.

Also in the past, Prepaid to PostPaid porting is originally not permitted.

Singtel is the first to allow porting from singtel prepaid to Singtel PostPaid.

Singtel Prepaid to M1 Postpaid porting is a 2 step process. One need to Port from Singtel Prepaid to M1 Prepaid then to M1 PostPaid.

Why go through all that trouble to change sim card to nano sim? Is it worth about 3 days of hassle?

In the past like 9 years ago, prepaid sim card cannot be replaced to retain the same number. If you lost your phone, you also lost that number because you lost the SIM card.

Therefore, the double porting method is to workaround it in order to get Micro-SIM.

Only like quite recently like 2016, Singtel start to allow the customer to top up $38 to main balance to get new 3in1 SIM.

Just for info,
I went to Singtel Commcentre yesterday to change my Postpaid SIM card (in malaysia cannot get Roaming data, look SIM card faulty), got the new one, free of charge.
And by the way I asked how come my other prepaid SIM only has 3G data and no 4G data, then I got a new prepaid SIM card replacement as well, free of charge.
