Some of the JR east passes used to be flexible days before Apr 21.

IMO it was much better than consecutive days, i think the change benefits people residing in japan with foreign passport.

Anyway international leisure travel is out at the moment, thus japan target audience in the short term should be domestic travel.

Yes, finally we can benefit from these sweet deals. Also my Japanese spouse can join me ... though she complains that it's unfair that she has to tag along with a foreigner to get this deal in her own country

It's also good for JR staff - now they don't have to check passport to see whether stamp inside is resident or tourist one. As long as it's a foreign passport it's good enough.

just watched for few minutes, yeah for JR EAST tohoku, nagano. they allow foreigners residing in japan to purchase (even if they not on tourists visa). so good news for those in japan now.
