Changing course

Hi, Im currently serving my ns for now and I have 2 years to think through. I recently accepted a course at sit doing criminology. Was sort of like an impulse thing and I applied for ntu too but didn't even get an interview because my GPA was only 3.33 including CCA I guess,got bronze haha. So I want to change course. Apply to other schools such as ntu, nus, Smu and sutd. I know my GPA isn't far from the cutoff point but is also at the bottom of the cutoff point. I'm interested in degrees that are related to engineering or It. I graduated with a business diploma from Np. And I don't intend to take business since I hated every moment of it. Can anyone suggest me something? I really want to study engineering or It since before coming to poly, I did learn programming on my own free time. Only to be pressured by my parents to take business. So if there is any suggestion that you guy can give me to switch course between other unis? Not that I don't like sit criminology but I think it's not a good choice since anyone can become police with any degree. I'm looking at Smu information system since the cutoff is 3.56 at 10th percentile. I screw up my year 1 modules in poly with 2.7 only to get 3.5 and 3.6 constantly around my year 2 and 3s

Errr I think criminology is by University of liverpool, not by SIT

Very difficult to jump from biz to other fields like eng, IT

For SIT biz courses (Accountancy or Hospitality business), you are also below the 10th percentile

NTU eng (EEE or mech) only requires around GPA 3.47

He stood a fair chance if hes from engineering diploma and if he has better CCA/competitions to boost his portfolio to make up for the 0.1 10th percentile

What about it courses? I don't want to take some English or science courses in ntu or Smu with 3.4 10th percentile too. Not a good degree for work either

Do they take into consideration for discrete admission? I've heard of people with 3.2 getting into ntu or nus through discretion. But very rare

Engineering major in polytechnic is harder compare to other course.
That's why If you can survive in Engineering, you can hop to other major without issue.

Don't forget 1 more thing. You maybe offer a place in the big 3 university, the next question you should ask yourself is whether you can complete the whole degree program and receive that degree scroll.

Offer a place in Uni != confirm graduate.

Yes to both questions, but like you said, it is very rare. Did you represent your country at any international competitions? Did you win any awards for your school? Do you have a research paper published in an international peer-reviewed journal? Are you a record holder or a medalist in a national track & field event?

No one is claiming superiority, but people like to suggest their course is more difficult than others. Yet few people have taken more than one course, 'cept the double degree students. What basis do they have for making that claim?

No doubt there is a lot of personal bias in opinions. Claiming one's course is difficult allows one to justify his own poor results, or bolster his achievements if he has done well.

Objectively speaking, the technical skills required in engineering might be a shade more challenging than other softer disciplines. But I don't hear Law or Medicine students complaining their course are difficult.

Not at all. I have a background in engineering so my comment should have some merit. Perhaps you can share your opinion if you think otherwise.
