You can change small amount of lira at Singapore and bring along euro / USD there. Upon reaching Istanbul / Ankara / Izmir, there are lots of license money changer. If you are taking the tram at Istanbul, you should see some money changer along the way.

Places like Cappadocia, Ephesus, Gapilipoli, Pamukkale might not have that much of money changer and rates might not be that good should you find one. If really shortage of money, ask for direction to the nearest Post office.(Take note: very slow services but rates are okay or even better)

Lastly, enjoy your trip and be safe!
(I love this country, damn beautiful)

Yes there are more pickpocket in istanbul, just be careful and stick to your group. Security is okay, but turkey is a big country, police might not be everywhere like singapore. If you take the train, often, you will see police man inside. As for the extra lira, you can change it at the istanbul airport.

Change USD in SIN and change lira in TURKEY, don't have to change all to lira.

favourable rates are given for Euros in Turkey.. but not sgd..
hard to say how much u need to change in Singapore first as it depends on your own budget.. but around 300 sgd would be plenty to bring u to town (not taxi) and settle your meals + stay for a night while you find your way around.
plenty of money changers around Sultanahmet area...

U will definitely be going to Sultanahmet sooner or later since the major attractions are there.

I changed my lira at Mustafa as I am on NE line. For small amounts not worth to head to town (think change alley should have best rates) unless you work nearby.
