i stayed before a hostel (cant rmbr name), near taipei station underground mall y13 exit.. v cheap $20 per night, but then hor... climb 4 levels of steep narrow stairs 
carry my luggage up and down like siao. got 2 toilet doors.. one of the toilet door open to a dark pit (fall to level 1) 
nvr stay there again
so far the better and cheapest one i stay is good9stay i stayed there a few times, about s$50-60 per night. not bad, quite clean. within ximending, occupy a level inside a old shopping mall building like queenstown shopping mall liddat. when full house they usually house me at their sister inn opposite the police station beside red house
