Nice writeup! Tho, not really the coachsurfing experience i was expecting but urs should be pretty unique. Not for me tho, I prefer my trips to be totally free and easy.

Single rooms with ensuite toilets at that price or lower can be found, especially in big cities like Tokyo, if u look hard enough.

And true that, xtwis7, haha!

Interesting, I'm doing the same thing for this year's trip. I considered capsule hotels but I had some considerations, as most capsule hotels seems to be a public bath... And those that were located close to cities seemed to be kind of expensive.

However, I found a hostel located near Shinjuku that had free entry/leaving (no need to check in/out every day), and shower cubicles and their cheapest price shared dorm is... 2000 yen per night. Yep, going to try that one this trip :p.

They have capsule cubicles but that's kind of expensive for 3000-4000 yen.

Haha my mentality was, this time trip I want a bit of risk :p. I'm alone anyway. My last 2 trips were ultra boring as I stayed at the same places unlike my first time.

I decided to make my trip less comfortable this time and to avoid the Asakusa area, where I love the amenities there and the cheap rates. Wanted to stay nearer to the city but I still want to keep the rates low.

When I want to seek a bit of comfort, I will find a cheap room elsewhere to stay, or can just upgrade my room in the same hostel.
