I am in a freshman in HSS currently and my curriculum has the option of taking up another major or another 2 minor.
Should i plan for another major or minor?

At the moment i am keen in taking these two minor, minor in communication studies and minor in translation.
Any suggestion/advise on this?
Should i take other minors like economics or business instead? Would it be a wiser choice?

i would think do a minor in a hard skill and not a soft skill. i.e. something technical and transferable that cannot be easily learnt via OJT. that would add more value.

There are 2 reasons why people will do a minor:

(1) For practical reasons that will help your resume stand out from the rest when you apply for jobs(though not necessarily true for most jobs)
(2) For the sake of interest or gaining new knowledge

If your reason is based on (1), then you should try for a minor in business. At least with that minor, you show that you at least have the basic fundamental knowledge in business like accounting, finance, marketing, etc. A minor in economics is good but if I were an employer, I would hire a full Econs major rather than a Econs minor.

If your reason is based on (2), then any minor is possible. A minor in comm studies, translation, science, engineering, etc is all feasible. It is all about your interest really.

For more opinions, you should post at: NTU - www.hardwarezone.com.sg

There would be more people there to give you their opinions. Cheers! :)
