Dear Mods,
I opened a thread to discuss a topic, Do you know Shanmugam means 6 faces?

I posted the link, where I read it.

A user got upset and called me a Racist.

To me, this is not racism. I merely stated a fact - the meaning of a person's name.

But because I do not want to risk getting an infraction, I deleted my thread.

May I seek your wisdom on this?

Is this racist? And why please?

Like if someone say Moe Lan Yong means a useless person, can I report him for being Racist?

That’s not racism. That’s the literal definition of Moe Lan Yong.

It is factual. Not racist. Albeit, not a nice thing to say.

It is akin to those nasty remarks made by members, on some of us, calling us nasty names for example idiot, stupid etc.

There are no rules to ban nasty comments iirc.

When you post irrelevant stuff regarding a minister, such as the meaning of his name, you contribute to the useless noise that drowns out constructive discourse about the present conduct of that minister and whether it lives up to the government's Code of Conduct for ministerial personnel.

Serious things like whether there's conflict of interest, whether the ID is connected to family relatives, fall by the wayside because people want to talk about multifaceted names.

Think about it bah.

Edit: end of the day, some threads will most likely get removed regardless of its signal-to-noise ratio, whether it is high or not. Like that particular Insta post that SG-created accounts cannot view... I get it if some people just want to watch the world burn.

Secondly, please bear in mind that your comments extends to religion and a deity that is worshipped by millions around the world.

I am not referencing a religion, and have no idea how it is related. Because there is no intention on my part to insult a religion.

This information is shared publicly by Lee Hsien Yang on Facebook, with links to the meaning to his name.

Since his post is still there, I assume it is not offensive, misleading or inappropriate. See it yourself.

However edmw is your fiefdom. Your rules. I know how the world works

(And I know you are just doing your job as a volunteer)

Just let me know whether it is permissible or not to post it in the above stated form, without attracting an infraction.
