Computer Casing with no DVD slot

I am a IT newbie beginner. Am planning to get a 2nd hand desktop for regular web browsing and office works and occasional casual gaming.

Have seen people and shops are selling desktop casing with no DVD slots (eg fractual design and nzxt). Anyone can enlighten me on how to install OS and other programs like computer motherboard bios?

I understand going digital, but you mean install the OS via usb thumbdrive?

You can use an external DVD rom that can be connected to the PC using USB. Take note that it is not possible to install Windows 7 using this approach. Windows 10 is possible. Reason is that windows 7 does not have the required drivers in the installation disc for USB connection. I have never tried windows 7 but have been installing windows 10 with no problem.

yeah this is exactly the point which I am worried about if I get a desktop with no dvd slot. I have an authentic windows 7 cd passed down from my friend and I am wondering how am I going to install it.

The other way out is just to get a desktop with dvd of course. But the one I am looking now without the dvd slot is quite a good deal tbh.

Win7 can. I test before. But u will be fugged when u want to connect to the net. Don't even have Ethernet drivers.

I thought this is a Skylake issue? Should be no problem on other platform?

@TS u can just download the driver from those relevant website. they usually provide u the supported driver from their side. once u download it, u can store it inside the OS thumbdrive(provided any space left), copy the driver install the PC with win10 and once it's done, install the driver u have Downloaded

Can buy casing with no Optical Drive and install it maybe? Otherwise just get 4GB or 8GB thumbdrive install the media tool from their website then transfer to your USB and download all your necessary mobo drivers and stuff from their respective websites. Plug in USB to your computer and go to BIOS to set boot device to USB then install win7.

Personally I also have disc for win 7 but I used the USB instead

You're not alone.

I also require DVD drive as I rip my music CDs often. Sometimes i also play my music CDs in the drive.. Feels good to open my CD once in a while to listen music, flip the lyric booklet.

Hi. Maybe you could try something like this?
I loved this case but it does not have a DVD Slot.
But this guy's implementation is brilliant. Just swing open the case and use the DVD drive. Problem solved. Looks great too.

I hardly use my dvd liao.....so sometimes it can get stuck while to open.....use paper clip.....
Try to open n close it once every few weeks....
