Good day everybody!

I just want to check if there are any good and reliable configuration control software and systems that you guys can recommend to a small company.

Importantly, it mustn't be extremely difficult to use.

I know that SAP is great, but unfortunately, for them to customize a configuration control system, it will cost too much.

It would be good to listen to all your feedback!
Please and thank you:D

What type of control are you talking about ? There are so many controls you can have over a system and software, and there are specialised controlling system for each different use case. You need to be more specific on what are you trying to control. SAP isn't about control as far as I know, it's more as a ERP and BI tool.

For customization, perhaps you can use webmin as the platform for customisation, integrate via interfaces offered by the system, or build your own interfaces to integrate with the system for monitoring and controls.

Ahh David, I see where you're coming from.

I am looking towards a solution to manage change notices with regards to the system and processes in the company, It could be on the system level for products. Also, it could be for the restriction of access to certain departments in the company for a specific field of interest.

Do you have any advise on this?

I have also looked to IBM but have not received the costing. I was told it will cost quite a bit though.

I see, what you are looking for is a Business Process Management system. Indeed BPM are normally used in large enterprises where at times need to go through several management roles before a workflow complete. Well such things normally don't come cheap. :)

While you can search around for BPM offerings online, you would like to take a look at http://www.activiti.org

I think I also missed out one of your requirement for access control. Normally this is done via an Access Management System within an Identity and Access Management Suite. Some of the popular enterprise products are IBM Tivoli IAM, NetIQ IAM, Oracle IAM.

Hence while BPM manages business process, Access Control are a different area of management and requires different solution. Since the emergence of SaaS, there are numerous IAM solution that you might want to consider.
