Hi,
I am trying to connect my miobox white colour router to another black router. However,i have been trying to make it work by following some online guide but is does not work.Hope someone here can provide me with a better guide link or followed the instructions before and it worked. My miobox white is connected to my desktop by LAN cable.So,i was trying to make the miobox white connect wirelessly to the black router thus allowing my desktop to have internet access.
Thanks alot!!!!!!!
your ideal diagram is:
cablepoint----wired--->miobox white router~~~~wireless~~~>black router~~~wireless and/or wired ----> to pcs/laptop
if that's the correct assume diagram, then first your black router must be able to support wireless repeater mode. If not check if it can be flashed to dd-wrt firmware(3rd party) pretty stable if u ask me. Im using it btw on a Linksys 160n
now do note that connecting to that black router will have a noticeable drop in dl bandwidth and speed, it is still acceptable for surfing and reading emails and stuff, probably not games that require fast ping(response time)
first of all after u set them u need to configure them in the same subnet ip.
as default subnet will be 255.255.255.0
which means if the miobox white router ip is 192.168.1.254(im assuming), your black router must be 192.168.1.xxx(xxx= 1 to 253) for easy to remember either put 1 or 253. when that's done, you have to also set your pc to the correct subnet ip. 192.168.1.xxx(1 to 254, as long its not the router ip). After that go into ur black router via ip address and find the wireless signal the miobox is giving out, set the correct security and password and done. Set your own wireless for the black router. Do not repeat the wifi ssid(name).
eg: if miobox white router is giving out ssid hamster12, your black router can be hamster13 or hamster12_ext....etc
having the same ssid = possible conflict which means even though it shows ur connected, u get slow access because it keep connecting and disconnecting between the routers
