NBC eyes drama about DC Comics' John Constantine

source: NBC eyes drama about DC Comics' John Constantine | Inside TV | EW.com

Another DC Comics title has the potential to end up on the fall 2014 schedule.

NBC has ordered a script from Warner Bros. TV that’s based upon the DC Comics anti-hero John Constantine, an enigmatic and irreverent con man-turned-reluctant supernatural detective who is thrust into the role of defending citizens against dark forces.

Genre uber-writer David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight Rises, Man of Steel) will executive produce with Daniel Cerone (The Mentalist). NBC has to greenlight a pilot before the concept has a chance to make it onto the fall 2014 schedule.

John Constantine served as the lead in the comics Hellblazer and Constantine.

Anyone still remember the keanu Reeves version on the big screen? That was pretty good....

Did it do well in the box office? If it was good, wonder why they didn't do a sequel..

Constantine: Based on the wildly popular comic book series “Hellblazer” from DC Comics, seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult John Constantine (Matt Ryan, “Criminal Minds”) specializes in giving hell… hell. Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all. The cast also includes Harold Perrineau and Charles Halford. Writer Daniel Cerone (“The Mentalist,” “Dexter”) serves as executive producer with David S. Goyer (“Man of Steel,” “The Dark Knight Rises”). “Constantine” is produced from Bonanza Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. The show is based upon characters published by DC Entertainment.

This Constantine looks cocky. Keanu looks lonely and sad, which is what Constantine is supposed to be. He isn't some wise-cracking smartarse with a girly sidekick. He's basically a crap magician who somehow gets by with low animal cunning, sheer luck, and calling in all those favours that people owe him (for some reason or another). And everyone he knows dies and everything he touches turns to shite.

And not again with that second sight bullshite. This isn't X-men. Constantine isn't a mutant, nor are the people in his story mutants. What's this, super powers ? People who can see things aren't anything special in the Hellblazer universe. That's like Magic 101, every two-bit magician has that skill. Read Hellblazer if you wanna know what is special and what isn't.

Another special effects snorefest destined to fizzle out after 1 season (if it even makes it that far).
