TS, I won't be worried about the black stuff (steel) if I were you. I'd be worried how much Teflon I've ingested.

for every new wok, beside washing with soap and water etc, i will throw food scraps, some leftover rice, veg scraps etc and add oil then use high heat to "fry" for 5mins or so then wash with soap and hot water again. new wok has metal residuals and industrial lubricants on the surface lah.

It was not telfon, but just pure stainless steel wok non stick type
What brand?

Non-stick normallly cant scrub one... because it will destroy the non-stick material.

Aslo, not suitable for cooking seafood with hard shell (crab, seehum etc) 'cos will also scratch the non-stick material.

You should only soak it.

I tot need to scrub it first?
Never ever scrub non stick cookware. Not before use. Not after use. Never.
Also, do not use metal spatula cos you might scratch the pan.
Or you'll end up eating the chemicals.

Pure stainless steel non stick? No way. It must have a coating to make it non stick. If it says no Teflon, then it's some other coating.
