Hi. I have a 4 yrs old laptop. Does changing my hdd into ssd increase the speed of the laptop? Laptop is under utilized, but it's very slow now.

Reformat will do, don't waste money on SSD as you might be
limited by the SATA speed.

Even on sata 2, an ssd is a huge upgrade from a normal 5400rpm hdd. But i would recommend him to upgrade his laptop instead. Spending $200 for a 250gb ssd to speed on a 4 year old core 2 duo laptop isn't very smart. Might as well get a whole new laptop.

Thanks for the input. Looks like my laptop is outdated already. I do already have a desktop, just wish to ask if my old laptop is still able to play dota2 if I just spend a few hundred to upgrade it.

No, can't. The graphics card is too outdated. Getting SSD will be pointless if your intention is to run dota2 on it.

Your laptop is obviously obsolete. The only rational decision to make now is to buy a new one, however it can be costly and most laptops have a lifespan of two to three years where their components become outdated and it becomes a burden to use.

Although I found this great PC build where you're able to play Battlefield 4 on ultra settings at 1080p at 60fps. It also includes playing a multitude of AAA titles on 1080p without the frame rate dropping below 30fps and it costs no less than $900.

In a nutshell, this PC build gives a benchmark score of 3200 - 3400 on 3D Mark Fire Strike. Ironically most laptops give a score of no less than 2000 or 2500 whilst they cost more than this build.

I'd strongly reccomend you to spend your money on this build than a laptop.
Agree with build except the processor .Not a geek ,prefer to get a Intel I5 ,more safer haha

For a 4 year old laptop with only SATA 3gbps, you can do the following:

1. Increase RAM to max that your laptop can take.
2. Change HDD to SSD (any average SATA 6Gbps will do due to backward compatibility with SATA 3Gbps - I suggest Samsung Evo with Magic Rapid Mode speed boost)
3. Check if you wifi card can be upgraded - Suggest Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (but make sure your laptop has 2x2 antenna at least)

Under normal productivity work, and simple non-graphic intensive games, eg: Diablo 3, it can still handle. The key question will be your graphics card on this laptop.

SSD does not increase frame per second for your game. It only reduces your loading time.
