Planning to visit Arashiyama next Fri. Was wondering whether it is possible to cycle around Arashiyama & whether it is easy (steep slopes, rocky ground)?

Also, we would like to take the raft down the lake.. Saw some pics online from people who took the sight-seeing train of some kind of raft in the water haha.. Where does this start/purchase tics from?

Thank you!!:)

Hi
I just came back from osaka and kyoto.
Yes,, it's real convinient to cycle in kyoto.
Moreover , the bicycle rental is real cheap..only 1000yen for whole day.
U can rent it behind the Shinkansen station in kyoto, next to APA hotel.
Buy a map from them at 100 yen and use ur google map and find your way round...
Real fun.
Hope this helps..
Cheers

Ooo!Did you cycle in Arashiyama? I saw pics of really steep slopes and even a bunch of stairs. How did you bring your bike around?

Arashiyama was very crowded during Autumn leave period
last year .
I will skip cycling when I go there for cherry blossom.

Never cycled in Arashiyama, but it looks possible.

Arashiyama Tenryuji | Cycle Kyoto

As for the boat, information can be found here.

Parking & Directions

I took it back in autumn. It was a nice ride, but quite long (between 1.5-2h usually according to the boatman). Bring some food and drink. Also, the boatmen will explain a little about the scenery and chat with the passengers, but all in Japanese.
