Google see if can find what the sale price of the luggage is. Then date of purchase can put a more recent date. For travel insurance, they estimate how much to pay you but of course will be less, since the item has been used but it's still a win when the luggage is foc. Hopefully, you can get more than $100, since it's samsonite.

For budget airlines, based on comments by others, they will usually want to arrange for your luggage to be repaired rather than compensate outright, which imo is a hassle.

I flew with Ang mo airlines, handle broke but they claim they do cover handle.
Case scratched up, they also don’t cover since it does not compromise the functionality.

Didn’t buy travel insurance so too bad, throw it out.

Please make sure you still keep your luggage tag, boarding pass and the damage report form.

Last time one of my customer received about 100++ for Samsonite broken handle.

But was it a hassle i.e. need to have someine around for them to pick up?

For qatar, they also wanted to do so for me as they don't cover those parts like wheels but the luggage not that new, so i just claim under travel ins.

I have a similar case and managed to claim $50 from FWD Business Plan in September. I took Scoot from Sydney. My Samsonite 24" RED luggage which was a signup gift from credit card, was spoilt. The handle cannot stand upright and kept slip down. Even though I screenshot the value from the credit card signup website, FWD said online prices does not counted as purchase proof, it must be the purchase receipt. If there is no proof of purchase, the policy shall indemnify the loss up to $50. A side note, I submitted the claim without the airline Property Irregularity Report / Damage Report. Hope you manage to claim.
