I am a very small spender (spend less than 200 bucks a month)

I want to apply for a CC to qualify for higher interest in the DBS multiplier account.

I do not drive and do not pump fuel at esso.

Does it make sense to apply for the esso master card even though I dont drive?

Reason for choosing that card is:
1. It has the lowest principle fees.
2. I will not qualify for the cash back with other CC as my monthly spending is too low

or got any other better options for me?

Why not get the DBS live fresh, then at least can get 0.3% cashback - better than nothing.

If u happen to need to spend $600 online/paywave (flight tix? hotel?) then can get the 5% benefit.

edit: it still has 0.3% cashback w/o min spend. Can always just call to cancel when annual fee arrives then apply for another DBS/POSB card if they don't waive the fee

I am not a safra member, dont intend to become one too

DBS livefresh card wont benefit me as I will be spending less than $600 on probably 90% of the months. The 0.3% rebate is really quite pathetic too lol.

I intend to use my DBS debit card for my paywaves as it got 5% cashback with no minimum spending.

Ultimately the difference in principle fees is $85 vs $128 for the esso vs the livefresh card.

no one pay annual fees so that should not be the key consideration. Maybe can get posb everyday, can get 3%/6% at watsons and 5% at shengsiong without min spend, 0.3% for others.

U can always waive the yearly fee.. if they reject then just cancel the card and apply other cards

Just call posb hotline and follow the instructions. Its voice automated and will be waived instantly. For me i have the dbs esso credit card and manage to get it waived yearly even though my spending is not that much. Only used it to pay for my bike’s petrol.

Use the 5% debit as your main card, and just get any dbs/posb card (and do the fee waiver/cancel and re-apply strategy) to pay for small items every month e.g. telco pay $1/mo or sth. That's my strategy on usage for this card, anyway.

I'd still recommend the live fresh in case u happen to need to spend $600+ online for a trip or buy a new telco phone (can pay online).

Haha no la, this is my first time applying for a CC.

Thanks for your input everyone, I'll most likely apply for the live fresh card!

That's what I intend to do. I'll pay wave with my debit.

All other online purchases will be with the live fresh in the event that month I happen to spend more than $600

When u call to waive annual fees, dyou wait till they charge u or u call before that? If they reject, u pay and cancel? Or u can cancel without paying?

call after fees charged. If reject, pay outstanding balance less the fees, then cancel without paying the fees. Check that they zero off the account.
