Degree in BA (general) course

Dear All,

I am intending to further my studies in Degree in BA (general) course but I need advise on which university will be better at Kaplan or PSB academy.

Kaplan: University of Swinburne (Degree in BA)
Duration with 12-18 months

PSB Academy: University of Loughborough (Degree in BA)
Duration: 3 years

Please advise if which is more recognized in Singapore.

Your help will be appreciated.

I will advice to take degree courses awarded by ranked universities, so that it will at least give you some form of recognition.

Both universities you listed should be namely, Swinburne University of Technology & Loughborough University.
Both are usually on the far end of ranking charts like THE & QS, thus they are always on & off the charts.
I would say that they are on equal grounds.

IMPORTANT - Do look through the curriculum of both programmes, select the one that is rigorous.
You may also wish to check if it is a honours degree.
If the degree is cheap, short duration, significantly lesser modules compared to local basic degree, then you have to be on the alert that it may not be a good degree.

If you wish to have a better chance of working in Singapore, be it in the public or private sector, you may wish to consider local universities.
Example, UniSIM BSc Business / Marketing / Finance

I graduated in dip BA at psb academy and I don't think local universities will accept or it depends on case to case basis.

So I would like to know more about the 2 universities thaf I mentioned both are equally the same??

Cause I wanna choose the right university.

I guess you are limited by the not so rigorous diploma you had.

Ranking wise both are usually the same, on and off the charts.
Curriculum wise, best that you decide for yourself. Just select the one you feel is rigorous and not cheap.

Does Kaplan accept your diploma? It seems that they prioritise Poly Dip and their own Private Dip.

I believe there are a few designated progression pathway for your PSB diploma, you may wish to contact your school.
Diploma in Business Administration

You may also consider SIMGE, they have better ranked universities, just avoid their UOL & RMIT.

If you are determine and crazy enough, you may wish to change route and return to the a-bit mainstream education.
Part-time Polytechnic Diploma in Business Practice -> UniSIM Bachelor Degree.

why? in fact SIM-UOL is one of the few that I would actually recommend.

In my opinion,
- UOL's 100% marks on exams is a little non-modern, nowadays, universities' markings include assignments, projects, participation and exam.
- Although, UOL have many of its lead colleges to make curriculum for them, like LSE, but UOL itself is not a ranked university. LSE offers their own degrees, different from UOL.
- 4 modules per academic year is a-bit too little, in other universities, one could complete more than 8 modules per year. Is 4 modules rigorous enough?
- Because it can be studied fully without an institution and losing that social aspect of studying in a university, it gives a stigma of an online university.
- Due to UOL degrees' wide accessibility, it may have a high recognition and many alumni, but is it a highly reputable degree that churn our successful individuals?

Perhaps there are advantages to UOL degrees I did not consider, but it is difficult to wash off that stigma.

hey bro i grad from psb dip in ba years ago too and generally most DL will accept your dip. specifically, kaplan-murdoch-ucd, mdis-uob and sim-uol. for DL bsc BA im pretty sure birmingham, manchester from sim and adelaie from naa are some of the top choices but sadly these uni dont accept psb dip.

likewise, local uni no need to even doubt or wat case by case, its a straight no not even unisim which is the one i want to get in.

I very dulan waste my money and effort to get almost all As for my modules. wrong move so lan lan i go back mainstream A level private candidate took GP,h2 history/econs/mob and got a bunch of D and C. Result lousy but enough to enter unisim..

uni only once in a lifetime, so if want take go attend the best possible one that is within reach

I've always been curious about that 4 modules per year thing as well, which I found really weird tbh. It makes perfect sense as a self-study part-time kind of thing, where you would need to focus on your career and whatnot. But 12 modules for 3 years seems really skimpy IMO, for a full-time student. A standard engineering student in a local university completes 12 modules in one year. I once met a double major physics/philosophy student in local uni that managed to even complete 10 modules in only a single semester and maintained first-class, meaning an average of A- for all his modules.

Interesting education route, private A-level -> Unisim. I think its faster and better than pte dip->pte degree tbh. But then again, as unisim transitions into a 'local uni', we cant guarantee that the entrance requirements would remain low. As it becomes a local uni, more people might choose unisim over SIMGE/PSB/MDIS if they dont get into the big 3, hence creating more competition for the spaces.

the worst thing going via this route is that i damn malu when i walk into my assigned exam centre which is a jc near my hse. all the youngsters looking at me like im some exotic animal. i was in my early 20s when i took my A then the female invigilator/teacher quite young like near my age see me also weird weird.

yes i agree with your statement so better hurry up before the inflation gets too high. at the end of the day as long as your degree helps you in your career all is well.

I might go back PSB academy to study Business Studies from Loughborough uni but what I am curious is, a degree honours compared to normal degree, is it a huge difference when it comes to pay wise or is it just a slight difference?

well there is also the option of part time degree in unisim, however do take note that only local diploma are accepted.

my colleague wanted to switch from part time to full time, man he must have cash to burn.
no way in hell would i want to do that and end up spending more cash on extra modules and more time wasted.
