diagnose my computer

its been months since i last turn on my desktop, yesterday i connected it and turn on but failed, just black screen with my mouse cursor on display. no key commands work. so i restart in safemode and it works. shut down and turn on again it can load, but it took very very long before my old wallpaper load, almost 20minutes.

what can be wrong?

Could be hdd failing

not yet, i need to access the hdd to backup leh.

1. Press CTL ALT DELete and the Task Manager will show up.
2. Go to Processes Tab
3. RIGHT click on "explorer.exe"
4. Select "End Process"
5. Left click on File on the menu bar
6. Select "New Task"
7. type "explorer" in the window that appears and press enter

Voila - you should have a proper desktop appearing after that.
