He probably brought the static from somewhere else. Then just happen the chassis is metallic, discharge.

Its the same with aircraft rubber tyres mah. Aircraft gather static from clouds, atmosphere, etc, then upon impact of landing the accumulated static is discharge to the ground via the tyres.
Oh so he is live (pun intended)... :s13:

good to know static do buildup on pc casing. must beware
Not just casing, anywhere. If not, u wouldnt see the static sometimes when u brush against someone else's hand and the pc is far far away frm u. Just so happens that PC casings are metallic, and metals conduct static electricity. So the frequency of getting 'shocked' by touching the PC casing is higher.

hi, i created an account specifically to ask if i did destroy my cpu or not, really urgent and require professional advice.

i was removing my cpu from my lga 1155 mobo and i felt a mild shock, will my cpu be damaged in anyway?

1. i wasnt wearing any antistatic strap
2. i touched my casing with my left hand but my right hand got the shock (when removing my hand not on casing)
3. i have slight sweaty palms
4. the iec was plugged in but psu was powered off.

is my cpu still gonna be functional? its an ivy bridge chip

next time wear a antistatic glove if you have sweaty palms.
